The Orthodox Church

    The Orthodox Church is the original Christian Church, founded by Jesus Christ and strengthened by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost (Acts 2:1–4). From the time of the Apostles until today, the Orthodox Church has preserved the same faith, worship, and sacramental life as practiced in the early Church.

Orthodoxy has never undergone a Reformation, nor created new doctrines. Instead, it has remained faithful to the teachings handed down from the Apostles, preserved through Holy Scripture, Holy Tradition, the Ecumenical Councils, and the living experience of the Church through the centuries.

The word “Orthodox” means both
• right belief and
• right worship —
expressing the unity of faith and prayer in the life of the Church.
